A pedal-assist e-bike adds motor support to your pedalling. You provide the riding effort, while the electric system can make starts, hills, headwinds, and longer city rides feel more manageable.
On a NINE09 e-bike, the pedals, pedal-assist system, battery, rear-hub motor, riding modes, display, and app work together as one connected system.
A pedal-assist e-bike uses an electric motor to support you as you pedal. You still pedal, steer, brake, and control the ride. The motor adds assistance to your effort rather than replacing it.
On the NINE09 CX01 and CX02, you can choose Eco, Drive, or Sports mode for normal riding. Both models also include Walk mode to help when you’re moving the bike on foot.
The process is:
This process adjusts as you ride. You remain in control of your pedalling, gear choice, speed, and level of assistance.
The NINE09 CX01 and CX02 use a PAS (Pedal Assist Sensor) to detect when you are pedalling and send that input to the control system. The system then activates the selected level of motor assistance.
The CX01 and CX02 list four modes. The level of support you feel depends on your mode and riding conditions.
The battery stores the energy used by the motor. NINE09’s CX01 and CX02 e-bikes use a swappable 374Wh lithium-ion battery with Smart Battery Management System technology.
The battery powers the motor and communicates with the e-bike and smartphone application. Because it is removable, you can take it out of the bike for charging or replace it with a charged battery when suitable.
Read the NINE09 e-bike battery guide to understand battery capacity, charging, and range.
The motor changes electrical energy from the battery into additional movement. NINE09’s CX01 and CX02 use a 250W, 42Nm rear-hub motor.
The motor supports the rear wheel while you continue pedalling through the bike’s chain drive. It does not remove the need to pedal. It helps reduce the effort needed to keep moving.
The display lets you manage the e-bike while riding. NINE09’s connected system includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen with navigation and call-control functions.
The NINE09 mobile app connects with your e-bike and gives you access to connected features such as bike and battery locking, GPS-related functions, rider profiles, and other ownership controls.

This connected system gives you access to important riding information and controls without relying on separate accessories for every function.
During normal riding, motor assistance reduces or stops when you stop pedalling. The bike may continue rolling on its momentum, but the motor is no longer adding the same support. Walk mode is a separate setting for moving the bike on foot.
NINE09 lists a maximum speed of 25 km/h and a claimed range of up to 99 km in Eco pedelec mode for the CX01 and CX02. Actual range can vary with the assistance mode, terrain, wind, rider and cargo weight, tyre pressure, and riding style. For more detail, read how far an electric bike can really go.
For EU readers, Regulation (EU) No 168/2013 describes a category of pedal-assisted cycles with a maximum continuous rated motor power of 250W, where motor output cuts off when the cyclist stops pedalling and assistance reduces and cuts off before the vehicle reaches 25 km/h. For country-specific rules, see NINE09’s e-bike speed limit guide for Europe and the Eurostat transport glossary.
Pedal assist can be useful as your route and riding conditions change:
You remain in control throughout the ride. You choose the mode, adjust your effort, change gears, and decide how quickly to travel.
the process is:
You pedal → the system detects your input → the battery supplies energy → the rear-hub motor adds support.
On the NINE09 CX01 and CX02, you choose an assist mode and pedal. The system responds to your pedalling, drawing power from the swappable 374Wh battery to help the 250W, 42Nm rear-hub motor drive the rear wheel.
You pedal → the system responds to your input and selected mode → the battery supplies power → the motor adds support.
Both models have Eco, Drive, Sports, and Walk modes. During normal riding, motor assistance reduces or stops when you stop pedalling. Walk mode is a separate setting for moving the bike on foot.

Yes, On the NINE09 CX01 and CX02, you need to pedal for motor assistance during normal riding. Walk mode is a separate setting for moving the bike at walking pace.
No, During normal riding, the motor provides assistance while you pedal. If you stop pedalling, that assistance stops. Walk mode is a separate setting for moving the bike on foot.
Use Eco for lighter assistance, Drive for everyday riding, Sports when you want stronger support, and Walk when moving the bike on foot. The CX01 and CX02 both offer these modes.
Generally, yes. Higher assistance asks the motor to provide more support, which can use more battery. Actual battery use also depends on your route, riding conditions, and riding style.
Yes, You can pedal without active motor assistance, although the bike may feel heavier than a conventional bicycle because it has a motor and battery.
